The federal government has signed off on a proposed mine northeast of Stewart.
Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says the Red Mountain gold and silver project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects if mitigation measures are taken into account.
Project proponent IDM Mining Ltd will have to fulfill more that 120 conditions, many relating to the Nisga’a Nation, during the life of the mine.
The conditions are meant to protect fish, migratory birds, human health, cultural and physical heritage, and traditional Indigenous land use.
IDM says the underground mine is expected to create about 200 jobs created during its operations.
