For the second day in a row, a group of Indigenous leaders met outside Calgary today to discuss purchasing the Trans Mountain pipeline.
Today was the final day of discussions between members of the Indian Resources Committee before they finalize their pitch to Ottawa.
Representing more than 130 First Nations with oil and gas interests across Canada, IRC CEO Stephen Buffalo says that, while they respect what Nations on the coast are fighting for, it’s starting to hurt other communities.
Buffalo went on to say that, in order to make the purchase successful, coastal and inland nations need to start consulting with each other.
Canada purchased the pipeline project for 4.5 billion dollars last year, but have said they do not intend to be long term owners.
The IRC’s proposal would make the project 100 percent Indigenous owned.
