Efforts to combat fish farms in BC are ramping up as the Dzawada’enuxw (za-wah-day-nook) First Nation has announced a law suit being filed against Canada.
DFN lawyer Jack Woodward has filed an Aboriginal Rights Suit against the country to challenge federal permits issued by the DFO allowing Atlantic salmon to be raised in their territory.
DFN territory covers the Kingcome Inlet area north of Vancouver Island.
According to Woodward, the 10 farms that have been issued permits by the DFO could cause long term damage to salmon, eulachon, and other fish species on BC’s coast.
