Secwepemc land defenders are making their support of the Wet’suwet’en known.
On Monday morning Secwepemc land defenders lit a sacred fire in Neskonlith Hall in a display of solidarity after RCMP began to arrest and remove Wet’suwet’en land defenders from their own unceded lands.
This morning, the Secwepemc issued a statement saying they stand alongside the Wet’suwet’en in their efforts to defend their land, culture, and rights as Indigenous peoples.
As part of that release, they are calling for peace and the immediate de-escalation of the tension at the Gidimt’en and Unist’ot’en camps, and for RCMP to respect the gates established by the hereditary chiefs.
