Despite being delayed by ralliers outside of Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made no mention of the events unfolding on Wet’suwet’en land when he addressed First Nations leaders in Ottawa today.
Trudeau made his appearance at the Modern Treaty and Self-Governing First Nations Forum this afternoon after the event was moved to another location.
The move was forced due to a group of gatherers bearing signage supporting the Wet’suwet’en and Gidimt’en people.
During the speech, Trudeau made sure to note the short-comings of previous governments, while highlighting the progress his government has made in dealing with Indigenous peoples thus far.
During the speach, Trudeau made mention of the multitude of work still ahead, while noting his wishes to not dwell on the past.
None of the speakers at the table during the 22 minute public address portion of the event brought up the on-going situation at the Unist’ot’en camp.
