After nearly 4 months away from home, residents of Telegraph Creek will soon be able to make their return.
Tahltan Emergency Operations Director Feddie Louie announced today that residents of the community forced to evacuate in August, will be able to return home as early as next week.
According to the announcement, the Tahltan band now has a plan in place that would see evacuees rejoin the community between November 15th and December 20th.
The community was originally forced to evacuate after a 120 thousand hectare wildfire devastated the area, destroying 21 homes, 2 businesses and several other buildings in the community.
Tahltan Chief Rick McLean issued his gratitude to the volunteers, EOC members, and surrounding communities for the support and love showed during the crisis.
He also thanked the Federal government and, in particular, Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpot for their efforts to get the community home as soon as possible.
