The BC government is hoping a new program will lead to increased food security and agriculture operations for Indigenous communities.
The BC Indigenous Agriculture Development Program will see agri-business consultants pair with interested First Nations to provide guidance on crops or livestock that may do well in the community along with funding for a business plan.
Up to $5000 in funding is available for a feasibility assessment. Once the best options are found, up to $10,000 will be available to work a business consultant to conduct agriculture financial and business planning.
Agriculture Minister Lana Popham says the program will help First Nations in BC. plan and develop farming projects that will build food security and create local jobs.
Funding for the program comes from both the provincial and federal governments.
