New legislation introduced today will give voters the option to change their minds should they vote to swap voting systems in this fall’s referendum.
Between October 22nd and November 30th, BC residents will have a chance to vote on whether or not to change from the current first past the post system to a proportional representation system.
Under ammendments proposed by the new legislation, a confirmation referendum would be held after two election cycles, should voters opt to change systems.
This will give voters the ability to try out the new system before deciding whether to make it permanent, or switch back to the current system.
