Crews are continuing to make progress in their efforts to move a barge that ran aground in Haida Gwaii two weeks ago.
A strong presence of dangerous gas vapours both in and around the barge makes the process of moving the barge a difficult and lengthy one.
While the vapours are a strong indicator of a possible fuel leak, environmental monitoring has not picked up on any pollution risks as of yet.
Yesterday crews began the extraction of cargo from the barge, which carries Westcoast Resorts’ Hippa Lodge, and the placing of safeguards around the potentially explosive vessel.
