As the wildfire season continues to wage on, the Northwest Fire Centre is currently dealing with more than 50 active fires.
Cassair Fire Zone
The Cassair fire zone is looking at 20 active fires, with the Lutz Creek and Alkali Lake fires each surpassing 100 thousand hectares but seeing reductions in activity.
The Alkali Lake fire continues to threaten the communities of Telegraph Creek and Glenora at over 118 thousand hectares, but has seen stalled growth over the past few days.
Reduced behaviour has been noted on the northern and eastern flanks of the fire today as crews continue to prioritize protection of wooden bridges and structures.
Ministry of Transportation personnel are on-site as they begin to repair damaged road surfaces on Highway 51.
A Yukon incident management team has taken over the now 106 thousand hectare Lutz Creek fire near Lower Post.
Structure damage has been noted in Lower Post, though the extent is not known at this time.
The Alaska Highway remains undamaged by the fire thus far.
Bulkley Fire Zone
In the Bulkley fire zone there are 11 active fires with the 10 thousand hectare West Babine fire being the most prominent.
Along with the rest of the Nilkitkwa complex, it is being managed by and incident management team from Saskatchewan.
Also included in the Nilkitkwa complex are the 655 hectare Nichyeskwa Creek fire, and the 2 thousand hectare Torkelsen Lake fire.
Structure protection is in place for all three fires, with evacuation orders issued as required.
The Nilkitkwa FSR is not restricted at the moment, but may be subject to tactical closures.
Nadina Fire Zone
The Babine Complex continues to encompass the bulk of the 14 fires in the Nadina fire zone, with six fires making up the complex alone.
While the complex is burning more than a hundred thousand hectares, crews have made significant progress in containing the most impactful blazes.
The Gilmore Lake, Verdun, Nadina Lake, Chelaslie Arm, and Morrison Mainline fires are sharing crews as progress is being made to contain the complex.
Three of the fires in the complex are confirmed to have been lightning caused, while the other three are currently under investigation.
Crews are working in shifts around the clock to manage the blazes.
Skeena Fire Zone
And the Skeena fire zone is looking at just 5 active wildfires, with no fires of note and the largest measuring at just over 700 hectares.
Fraser Complex
The Fraser complex consists of the Shovel Lake, Island Lake and Cheslatta wildfires.
Of the three, the 91 thousand hectare Shovel Lake fire continues to cause the most problems for crews.
Teams are working around the clock on the blaze with the assistance of structural protection specialists.
The fire has not progressed towards Fort St James, Highway 16, or Highway 27 during the past week.
