LNG Canada says more flaring will be underway this week at their facility in Kitimat.
At some point between today, Tuesday, May 5th, and Thursday, May 7th, gas will be flared off for a 12 to 24 hour period with flame heights expected to be between 15 to 30 meters high this time, which is roughly 50 to 100ft.
As per a directive issued by the provincial energy regulator earlier this year, if black smoke is present during the flaring operations, LNG Canada is required to submit a report to the province about it.
They’ve also been directed to submit a report to the province by August 15th this year identifying the underlying cause of past instances of excessive emissions at the flare stack, along with a plan to fix it.
