There have been two fatal motor vehicle incidents near Prince George in less than a day and the BC Highway Patrol has now urged motorists to slow down to well below the speed limit as road conditions around Prince George continue to be treacherous.
At 12:42 pm yesterday afternoon, Monday, March 16th, RCMP had been called to scene of a fatal collision on the Hart Highway near Salmon Valley where a northbound Peterbilt logging truck pulling an empty trailer had struck a blue southbound Chevrolet Silverado, killing the driver, a 67-year-old man from Mackenzie.
RCMP say conditions were wet and slushy at the time, and the 29-year-old Alberta man driving the log truck appeared to have minor injuries. The investigation into what took place continues, and the BC highway patrol has asked anyone who may have dashcam footage showing the collision to contact them. Later in the day, at around 5 p.m., RCMP had been called to a separate fatal collision at Woodpecker Landing, where a semi-truck had jackknifed and struck a pick up, killing the passenger a 69-year-old woman from Quesnel, and sending the driver, 77-year-old man from Quesnel, to hospital with injuries. The driver of the semi, a 44-year-old man from Abbotsford, was not injured. RCMP say they believe speed and weather had played a role in this crash, but their investigation continues.
Anyone who may have witnessed the events leading up to it has been asked to contact the Prince George RCMP detachment.
