CN Rail will be going head with avalanche control work later this afternoon on Kitselas Mountain. The work utilizes controlled explosive detonations and requires helicopter.
The exact time of the work depends on local weather windows, but it’s planned for some time between 3:00pm and 7:00pm today.
Given the recent snow fall in the Northwest, Avalanche Canada considers the avalanche risk on slopes in the region to be moderate to considerable, with large slides possible. The highest risk exists in the mountains around Terrace, Kitimat, and in the Nass Valley, with slightly better conditions in the mountains around Smithers.
