A Flood Watch has been issued for the North Coast including Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Terrace and surrounding areas.
The BC River forecast center has warned the public to avoid rivers and streams in the region for now as they have risen with the ongoing heavy rain, with peak flows expected tonight and into tomorrow, Thursday, February 5th.
The heaviest rain in the system is expected along outer coastal areas south of Prince Rupert and west of Kitimat, with the worst-case forecast predicting upwards of 250mm of rain could fall in this area by tonight, Wednesday, February 4th.
Temperatures should stay mild at lower elevations, with freezing temperatures excepted above 2000m.
Along the Central Coast, where rains have been less severe this week, a High Streamflow advisory has been issued and remains in effect today, including for tributaries north of Klemtu.
