Three men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2023 killing of Robert Girbav in Dawson Creek.
The BC RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit had taken the lead on the investigation and this past Saturday, January 31st, it had coordinated three separate arrests within the justice systems of BC and Alberta.
RCMP say 31-year-old Tanner Allan Murray, 34-year-old Robert James Sinclair, and 36-year-old Benjamin James Elliott Touchette had all been in custody on unrelated matters, and had been arrested and charged in this case without incident.
The accused are facing one count of first-degree murder each, with investigators alleging they believe the three men and Mr. Girbav had been known to each other.
The investigation into Robert Girbav’s death began on New Year’s Eve 2023, when the Dawson Creek RCMP had discovered his body inside a red Dodge Calibre while responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked at the intersection of 17th Street and 116th Avenue.
BC RCMP Major Crime Unit Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon noted the distress and ongoing concerns of community safety the killing had caused in the Peace Region.

Superintendent Wijayakoon adds, the investigation was complex and involved contributions from the Dawson Creek RCMP, the RCMP’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, Major Crime Interview Team, and Forensic Identification Services.
The charges have not yet been tested in court, and associated court dates for the case have not yet been made public.
