A forestry town hall will take place this Saturday in Terrace, offering northern residents an opportunity to discuss the growing challenges facing British Columbia’s forest sector.
Skeena MLA Claire Rattée is hosting the event, alongside BC Conservative interim leader Trevor Halford. The town hall comes at a time when mill closures, job losses, and economic uncertainty continue to affect forestry-dependent communities across the North.
Organizers say forestry has long been the backbone of many northern towns, supporting families, local businesses, and regional economies. However, concerns are mounting that key decisions about the industry are being made without enough input from the people who live and work in these communities.
The event is intended to bring forestry workers, contractors, business owners, and residents together to share firsthand experiences and discuss what they believe needs to change to better protect forestry jobs and community stability. Attendees will have the chance to raise concerns, describe local impacts, and contribute to broader discussions about the future of forestry in northern British Columbia.
The Forestry Town Hall is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will be held in the Days Inn Banquet Room in Terrace. The event is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend.
