Williams Lake First Nation is inviting proposals from qualified authors, researchers, historians, and Indigenous Knowledge Keepers to write a comprehensive history book documenting the Nation’s story from time immemorial to the present day.
In a request for proposals issued January 14, Williams Lake First Nation says the project is intended to reflect the Nation’s history through its own voice, worldview, laws, and lived experiences. The final product will be a high-quality, publish-ready manuscript suitable for both community and public distribution.
The successful proponent will be responsible for conducting historical research, facilitating interviews, integrating oral histories, and drafting and revising the manuscript. Throughout the process, the author or team will work collaboratively with WLFN leadership, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, staff, and community members, while respecting cultural protocols, confidentiality, and data sovereignty.
Williams Lake First Nation is seeking proponents with demonstrated experience in historical research and writing, particularly those who have worked respectfully with Indigenous communities. Strong cultural competency, writing skills, and the ability to manage timelines and community engagement are considered essential. While all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, preference may be given to Indigenous authors or teams.
All intellectual property and collected knowledge associated with the project will remain the property of Williams Lake First Nation.
Proposals must be submitted electronically by January 30, 2026.
