Northern Health is calling on crafters across Northern British Columbia to participate in the Purple Cap winter campaign. The initiative encourages knitters, crocheters, and other craft enthusiasts to create handmade purple caps for newborns and two-month-old infants.
The caps are part of the Period of PURPLE Crying® program, which aims to promote infant safety, support parents during the first few months of life, and raise awareness about normal infant crying patterns. By contributing a cap, participants provide both warmth and reassurance to families while helping Northern Health spread this important message.
Crafters interested in joining the campaign can email HealthyStart@northernhealth.ca to express interest. Completed caps can be dropped off or mailed to the South Fort George Family Resource Centre, addressed to Barb Walker, Public Health Practice, Northern Health, at 120 – 1200 La Salle Avenue in Prince George. Detailed instructions, including recommended cap sizes, are available on the Northern Health website.
Northern Health encourages community members to take part in this meaningful initiative, which combines creativity with public health support. Each cap made is a tangible way to help keep infants safe and comfortable, while also fostering a sense of community care throughout Northern BC.
