Prince Rupert residents woke up to substantial snowfall overnight. City crews, along with contractors, have been out plowing main arterial roads and priority routes to ensure emergency access and public transit. Side streets may not yet have been cleared, and city officials stress that if residents haven’t seen a plow, it does not mean crews aren’t working—they are simply prioritizing critical routes first. Complaints and concerns are being tracked and addressed as conditions allow.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution, as roads may be slippery. Residents whose vehicles are not equipped for winter driving are encouraged to limit travel if possible. Safety remains a priority while crews continue their work.
Residents are also reminded to clear catch basins near their homes to help prevent flooding once snow begins to melt. Those unable to manage this themselves can contact the city for assistance, though response times may be slower due to the high volume of work.
Meanwhile, BC Hydro reports a power outage affecting the east side of Prince Rupert, east of 7th Avenue. Crews are investigating, and updates are available on the BC Hydro website.
City officials thank residents for their patience as crews work to keep roads clear and services running amid challenging winter conditions.
