The Province of British Columbia is calling on the public to nominate exceptional individuals for its two highest honours: the Order of British Columbia and the Medal of Good Citizenship.
The Order of British Columbia represents the highest recognition the province can extend to its residents. It honours former or current British Columbians whose achievements, excellence, or distinction have made a meaningful impact locally, nationally, or internationally. Since its creation in 1989, more than 500 people have been appointed to the Order.
The Medal of Good Citizenship recognizes individuals whose selfless volunteerism, generosity, and commitment have strengthened their communities. Youth nominations are welcomed for individuals aged 15 to 25, and posthumous nominations are also accepted. As the program marks its tenth anniversary, nearly 200 individuals, along with communities and groups, have been honoured for their contributions.
Lieutenant Governor Wendy Cocchia says the honours celebrate British Columbians whose work reflects the diversity, compassion, and strength of the province. Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport Minister Anne Kang adds that many recipients are people whose quiet acts of kindness and service often go unrecognized.
Nominations for both honours must be submitted to the Honours and Awards Secretariat by April 7, 2026, to be considered this year. An independent selection committee reviews all submissions and recommends recipients.
Details on eligibility and the nomination process are available through the provincial government’s honours and awards website.
