A prolonged stretch of active weather is expected for the North Coast, Haida Gwaii, and coastal sections of the Central Coast, beginning Thursday night and lasting through Sunday.
A series of Pacific systems will move through the region, bringing repeated rounds of precipitation along with very strong southerly winds.
The first system arrives Thursday night. In Kitimat, rain will develop in the evening, becoming heavier through Friday and Saturday before easing to scattered showers late Sunday.
Near Terrace and along Highway 16 toward Prince Rupert, precipitation will start as snow Thursday night. This is expected to change to freezing rain early Friday morning, then switch to rain Friday afternoon as temperatures rise.
In Stewart, snow—heavy at times—will continue through Thursday night and into Friday morning, before changing to rain Friday afternoon.
Moderate to strong southerly winds will also develop across coastal areas of the North Coast, Central Coast, and Haida Gwaii on Friday. The strongest winds are expected Friday evening into the overnight, gradually easing through the day on Saturday.
