Fort St. John RCMP are continuing to investigate a suspected arson at the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement building located at the Highway 97 North weigh scales in Charlie Lake.
Police say the fire was reported shortly after 1:15 a.m. on Monday, December 15. Fort St. John RCMP frontline officers responded alongside the Charlie Lake Fire Department and found the building fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. The structure sustained extensive damage.
Investigators believe the fire was intentionally set. RCMP have identified a lone male suspect believed to be associated with a dark-coloured pickup truck. No injuries were reported, but the incident is described as a highly destructive act.
As part of the investigation, police are asking motorists to review dashcam footage from the area between 1:00 and 1:20 a.m. that morning. Officers are particularly interested in any video showing activity near the CVSE building or along Highway 97 North around the time of the fire.
RCMP say even small details could be significant in helping identify the person responsible.
