Slick road conditions along Highway 97 North of Prince George yesterday, Thursday December 18th, had led to a multi car pileup near Summit Lake, and a separate two-vehicle collision just North of the city around the same time.
The Prince George RCMP said shortly after 3:30 pm yesterday afternoon they were alerted of a 5-car incident about 5kms north of Summit Lake, and a two vehicle incident closer to the city, both apparently caused by a quick degradation of road conditions, which at the time were already icy and were getting icier as temperatures hovered near zero causing what condensation was on the roads to freeze up.
Prince George RCMP Media Relations Officer, Corporal Jennifer Cooper, urged those on the roads to slow down and drive according to the road conditions. She adds that this means leaving plenty of space between yourself and the vehicle in front of you, and making sure your headlines are on at all times.
There’s no official word on the extent of any injuries relating to the pileups, but the Highway had not fully closed to traffic and there were no impacts to traffic as of Friday morning.
