The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia, the Province’s integrated multi-agency anti-gang police force, has announced it’s expanding its operations to create a new dedicated unit serving Northern BC.
The North District Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, as the new unit will be known, is being created with a commitment to assist law enforcement efforts in the North with a primary focus on disrupting gang activity. It will use strategies CFSEU-BC leadership says have proven effective in other parts of the Province to target violent offenders and gang associates, intercept the flow of drugs, weapons and criminal proceeds, coordinate intelligence sharing with local police, and engage in what they call ‘focused suppression efforts’.
The CFSEU-BC notes that between 2020 and 2024, the Force had deployed to the North 28 separate times, accounting for about 26% of all their deployments. This year alone, the force has deployed 33 times provincewide, and 6 times in the North, a reflection of what CFSEU-BC says is an increasing trend of weapons and drug trafficking within Northern and remote communities, and the associated expansion of trafficking routes.
North District UGET is expected to begin operations sometime in 2026, but no specific timeline has been made public.
