The Terrace RCMP is reporting strong results from the 2025 Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program, known as C-STEP. Launched in June with funding from the Government of British Columbia, the program aimed to provide proactive policing, focusing on high-crime “hot spots” to prevent violent criminal activity.
Over the four months of operation, Terrace RCMP made 231 additional arrests, laid 48 charges, and issued 47 violation tickets. In the final month of the program alone, officers arrested 47 individuals, including many repeat offenders, preventing further potential offences.
A variety of weapons were seized throughout the program, including swords, katanas, throwing knives, hatchets, brass knuckles, daggers, switchblades, and even homemade bladed weapons. Ammunition and bear spray were also taken off the streets. Officers also removed illicit drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other contraband, alongside cash, open liquor, and break-in instruments.
The program also prioritized connecting individuals with social support. Fifteen repeat offenders were referred to local social services, and numerous unhoused individuals were connected with organizations such as K’san Society and Kermode Friendship Society to access treatment programs.
RCMP officials say the program strengthened visible policing in Terrace, prevented potential crimes, and enhanced community safety. The success of C-STEP highlights the benefits of focused enforcement paired with social support services.
