At the Nation2Nation Forum in Kitimat today, a panel called “The Power of Partnerships, The Power of Yes” focused on how Indigenous nations are working with industry to strengthen communities and local economies.
Panelists included former Haisla Chief Crystal Smith, Indian Resource Council President Stephen Buffalo, and Âsokan Generational Developments President Justin Bourque, moderated by Shannon Joseph from Energy for a Secure Future.
Speakers shared examples of Indigenous-led equity in energy projects, infrastructure, and cultural initiatives. Crystal Smith highlighted new opportunities for Haisla members in jobs, education, and long-term social programs. Justin Bourque pointed to major Indigenous equity deals transforming Alberta communities, while Stephen Buffalo emphasized trust, humility, and open communication as the foundation for success.
The discussion reinforced a common theme — partnerships built on respect and collaboration can create lasting economic and cultural benefits for future generations.
