At the Nation2Nation Forum, Haisla Nation Environment Manager Candice Wilson led a panel called Shared Waters — bringing together community, industry, and science voices to discuss how to care for the rivers and reservoirs that connect them.
Panelists from Ecofish Research and Rio Tinto highlighted how collaboration and trust are guiding water management in Haisla territory. Wilson noted that water has always been at the heart of Haisla culture — feeding families and carrying teachings passed down through generations in the smokehouse.
Speakers said the partnership between the Haisla Nation and Rio Tinto continues to strengthen, with joint studies on fish health, flow management, and habitat protection. They agreed that combining traditional knowledge with western science is vital to safeguarding local ecosystems and communities for the future.
