The B.C. government is moving to make online versions of provincial laws official.
New legislation introduced this week would modernize how people access and use B.C.’s acts and regulations — allowing digital copies from a government website to carry the same legal weight as printed versions.
Until now, only printed copies published by the King’s Printer were considered official under the Evidence Act. If the new laws pass, people could present official digital copies in court or print them at home for legal use.
Printed copies will still be available, but the move aims to make legislation easier to find and use online, with added accessibility features and improved readability.
