Seven Sisters Park and Lakelse Lake Park are receiving significant upgrades to improve accessibility and outdoor recreation. A $400,000 project is underway at Seven Sisters Park to enhance the Watson Lakes Trail. The first kilometre of the trail will be widened and its grade reduced to make hiking easier for beginners. New facilities will include gravel tent pads, a bear cache, picnic tables, and a backcountry toilet, along with 13 additional parking spaces.
Lakelse Lake Park is also undergoing $200,000 in improvements. Accessible parking stalls will be built, and a new pathway and accessible mat will provide better access to the beach. Additionally, some picnic tables will be replaced with accessible versions, and the toilet building will be upgraded.
These upgrades will make outdoor spaces more inclusive and accessible, encouraging more people to enjoy B.C.’s natural beauty. Local leaders also expressed gratitude for the Gitxsan and Ts’msyen Nations’ stewardship of the area’s ecosystems.
