Premier David Eby is in New York from September 21 to 23, where he is promoting British Columbia as a global leader in clean energy and critical minerals. His mission coincides with Climate Week NYC, an event that attracts clean-energy investors from around the world. Premier Eby will meet with leading industry players to highlight B.C.’s competitive advantages, including its vast natural resources, skilled workforce, and access to strategic global markets.
“B.C. has what the world needs — from clean-energy expertise to a strong resource base and a stable investment climate,” said Premier Eby. “We are well-positioned to be the economic engine of the new Canadian economy.”
The Premier’s visit underscores B.C.’s growing role in the global shift towards sustainable and inclusive economic development. He pointed to recent milestones like the Red Chris Mine expansion, designated as a project of national importance, and emphasized B.C.’s contribution to Canada’s Critical Minerals Strategy, which is helping accelerate critical-minerals development.
B.C.’s mining operations are among the world’s least carbon-intensive, with 98% of the province’s electricity generated from clean or renewable sources. In 2024, B.C. produced an estimated $16.7 billion worth of mining products, and the mining sector represents nearly 30% of the province’s goods exports. The visit also highlights B.C.’s ongoing Trade Diversification Strategy, building on previous missions to Asia and Europe, which have showcased B.C.’s opportunities in technology, life sciences, agriculture, and more.
With B.C. home to 19 critical minerals and more than 1,100 mining companies in Vancouver, the province is positioning itself as a key player in the clean energy and critical minerals market.
