The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and the 3Nations Society have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at improving health services in the territories of the Tahltan, Kaska, and Taku River Tlingit Nations. This collaborative agreement will address critical healthcare gaps, particularly in rural and isolated communities in Northwest BC.
The MOU outlines several initiatives to improve health outcomes, including a strategy for recruiting and retaining healthcare workers in the region. Additionally, the partners will work on developing a 3 Nations Health and Wellness Agreement and a framework to secure resources necessary for its implementation.
An annual progress report will compare health outcomes for First Nations with non-Indigenous British Columbians, ensuring transparency and accountability. The FNHA and 3Nations Society are dedicated to ensuring that healthcare services meet the unique cultural and geographical needs of the three Nations, with an emphasis on improving access to timely, culturally safe care.
This MOU marks an important step in the ongoing effort to transform healthcare in the region.
