A 7.8 magnitude earthquake had struck about 410kms southwest of Bering Island, Russia, just before 12:00pm Pacific time today, triggering a tsunami advisory for parts of Russia and the western Alaskan Aleutian Islands.
The Province of BC is currently assessing the tsunami threat, but no tsunami watch, warning, or advisory has yet been issued for any part of the province.
CFNR is monitoring the situation and we’ll have more details as they become available.
