The memorial walk to honour Tamara Lynn Chipman began this morning in Terrace, marking 20 years since her disappearance. Community members gathered at the Terrace Police Station at 8:30 a.m. to send off walkers starting at 9 a.m. They will walk the Highway of Tears toward Prince Rupert, where Tamara was last seen on September 21, 2005.
Organized by Tamara’s family and the Tears to Hope Society, the walk is meant to keep her memory alive and raise awareness about the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Participants are invited to join for any portion of the four-day journey.
Drivers along Highway 16 are advised to exercise caution and be alert for walkers traveling the route from Terrace to Prince Rupert from September 18 to 21. The safety of both walkers and drivers is a community priority.
For those unable to walk, community members were encouraged to support the event by attending the send-off or encouraging walkers along the route. The Tears to Hope Society has been advocating since Tamara went missing, and this walk stands as a powerful tribute after 20 years without answers.
More information and sign-up details are available through the organizers.
