The Conservative Party is accusing Mark Carney and the Liberal government of failing Canadians as food and housing prices continue to soar. According to the latest data, food inflation in August rose by 3.4 per cent, which is 79 per cent higher than overall inflation and 70 per cent above the government’s target.
Meat prices are rising sharply, with fresh beef up 12.7 per cent and overall meat prices climbing 7.2 per cent compared to last year. The Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto anticipates four million visits in 2025—double the number from just two years ago.
Over a quarter of Canadians are now facing food insecurity, with many low-income households spending more than half their income on essential items like food, utilities, and transportation. Housing is also a growing concern, with rent increasing by 4.5 per cent in August and mortgage interest costs up 4.2 per cent.
The Conservative Party says this crisis shows a failure to meet the government’s commitments. The Party vows to hold the Prime Minister accountable and is focused on restoring the Canadian promise of affordable food, housing, and stronger take-home pay for all.
