A day-long manhunt for a Fort St. John man with outstanding warrants came to a close on September 11, with the arrest of 39-year-old Johnathon Michael Peters near Peace Island Park in Taylor, BC.
The search began at 9:55 AM when the Fort St. John Street Enforcement Team, Peace-Liard Police Dog Services, the North District Emergency Response Team (ERT), and local RCMP executed a Feeney Warrant at Peters’ residence. Peters, who was wanted on charges including uttering threats, mischief over $5000, and breach of a release order, was not found at the residence. Investigators received information suggesting he was in Taylor, prompting further action.
Shortly before noon, ERT officers attempted a traffic stop on a side-by-side vehicle believed to be driven by Peters. The vehicle fled into Peace Island Park, where tracking teams, drones, and Air Services monitored the situation. The vehicle eventually became inoperable on an island in the Pine River, and Peters was arrested around 2:00 PM.
Peters now faces additional charges of flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a conveyance, and obstruction. Staff Sergeant Scott Watson commended the coordinated efforts of the RCMP units involved, which led to the safe arrest of the suspect. Peters was held for court following his arrest.
