On September 4 Terrace RCMP stopped a youth riding an e-motorbike on Highway 16. The rider, who had distinctive markings, was not able to provide the necessary documents, including a driver’s license, registration, or insurance. The rider fled the scene but was later identified and confirmed to be a youth without a valid driver’s license. The RCMP issued multiple violation tickets, including fines for no insurance, no license, and failing to stop for police. The youth’s parent was notified and expressed support for the police actions.
The RCMP is reminding the public about the regulations surrounding electric transportation, such as e-scooters, e-bikes, and e-motorbikes. These vehicles are subject to various rules, and parents should ensure their children are aware of them. Electric kick scooters, for instance, are only legal in communities participating in a BC pilot program, and riders must be at least 16 years old. Terrace is not part of this pilot program. Parents can also be fined for allowing children under 16 to operate electric kick scooters. More details on e-bike requirements are available on the RCMP website.
