As families prepare for the new school year, three British Columbia communities are welcoming new licensed child care spaces on school grounds to better support parents and children.
In Masset, Haida Gwaii School District (SD50) has opened 24 new spaces at the G̱aw Tlagée Child Care Centre, providing much-needed before- and after-school care options for local families.
Smithers families now have 48 additional child care spots at Muheim Memorial Elementary School through the Bulkley Valley School District (SD54), helping ease the pressures of daily routines.
Williams Lake has added 20 new child care spaces at Chilcotin Road Elementary School in the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District (SD27), expanding access to affordable, high-quality care in the region.
These new spaces are funded by the provincial ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund and supported by federal investments, designed to make child care more affordable and accessible close to home.
Parents in these areas will also benefit from fee reductions that can save up to $900 per child per month, plus additional financial support programs.
