The Terrace RCMP had responded to about 252 calls in the week from August 16th to 23rd. During this time, RCMP say they noticed a trend of older model ford pick-up trucks being targeted in a series of successful and attempted thefts.
On Saturday August 16th, a 2005 Ford F250 was stolen from the 4800 block of Davis Avenue, with the owner reporting both sets of keys were accounted for. RCMP say the truck was found two days later, Monday, August 18th, on Motz road, with it’s front plates missing and damage to the drivers door and ignition.
The next day, Tuesday, August 19th, a 2008 Ford F250 had its ignition tampered with while parked near the 4800 block of Halliwell Avenue. RCMP say in this case, the vehicle was left unlocked.
Then on Thursday the 22nd, RCMP received two separate calls about early model fords found with damage to their ignition. A 2003 Ford F250 had been stolen from the 4800 block of Straume Avenue, then found by the owner in a near-by lot with a damaged ignition. In a separate incident, the owner of a 2006 Ford F250 near the 4900 block of Labelle Avenue reported they had also noticed damage to their ignition on their truck.
On Saturday the 23rd, a 2007 Ford Ranger had its driver’s side handle and window tampered with, leaving the window off the track. Also on the 23rd, a 2001 Ford F250 had been stolen from a trailer park on Old Lakelse Lake Drive. RCMP later found the vehicle with damage in a parking lot on the 4500 block of Olson Avenue.
In light of these incidents, the Terrace RCMP have reminded the public to ensure their vehicles are secured, with no belongings left inside that could attract potential thieves. The detachment has also encouraged installing quality home video security systems as an additional deterrent.
