Residents in Burns Lake and the surrounding area are being advised that the Emergency Department at Lakes District Hospital will be temporarily closed due to staffing shortages. The closure begain at 8 a.m. today Wednesday, August 20, and will last until 8 a.m. Thursday, August 21.
If you’re experiencing a life-threatening emergency such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding call 9-1-1 immediately. You will be transported to the nearest open emergency facility. Signs will be posted at the hospital to alert visitors.
For non-urgent medical needs, residents are encouraged to see their family doctor or nurse practitioner. If you don’t have one, you can call the Northern Health Virtual Clinic at 1-844-645-7811, open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Indigenous patients can also access the First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day by calling 1-855-344-3800.
And for general health advice, you can call 8-1-1 to speak with a nurse, dietitian, or pharmacist anytime, day or night.
