A pedestrian is in critical condition following a serious collision early Thursday morning, August 14th, on Highway 97 near Lavally Road—roughly 40 kilometres south of Quesnel.
RCMP say they received multiple reports around 12:15 a.m. of a man jumping into traffic. Before officers arrived, the man was struck by a transport truck.
Emergency responders were quickly on scene and provided life-saving medical care. The injured man was later airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The truck driver was not injured in the incident.
A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the investigation and gather evidence. Highway 97 was closed for about seven hours as police completed their work, but it has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash cam footage from the area to contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
