Kari Morgan, a sculptor, painter, and designer from Terrace, British Columbia, has been named the recipient of the Polygon Award in First Nations Art, as well as the 2025 Crabtree McLennan Emerging Artist prize.
Kari’s rich heritage includes Nisga’a, European, and Métis roots. She began her formal training at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, where she studied under master carvers Dempsey Bob, Stan Bevan, and Ken McNeil.
Her work is a thoughtful exploration of the tension between traditional Indigenous forms and contemporary artistic expression. Kari believes that Northwest Coast art is not only a visual language but also serves as medicine for the soul.
Through her art, Kari is dedicated to honoring ancestral knowledge and uplifting Indigenous voices. She invites audiences to experience her culture in new and profound ways, bridging history and modernity.
