Over the August long weekend, the Terrace BC Highway Patrol intensified efforts to keep roads safe by using Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS). Officers issued 54 breath sample demands, which led to several immediate roadside prohibitions, including a 90-day suspension. Thanks to these measures, there were no impaired driving fatalities in Terrace during the holiday.
Mandatory Alcohol Screening allows police to request a breath sample from any driver stopped for a lawful reason, making it easier to detect impaired driving. Federal studies show MAS has a positive impact on reducing impaired driving deaths nationwide.
The BC Highway Patrol’s priorities focus on the three leading causes of traffic deaths: impaired driving, speeding, and distracted driving. During the long weekend, officers issued over 100 speeding tickets, six of which were for excessive speeding that resulted in vehicle impounds. Additional tickets were given for distracted driving and failure to wear seatbelts.
The patrol’s dedicated efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to road safety in Terrace and across British Columbia.
The catch phrase is “driver stopped for a lawful reason”. It sounds like one highway patrol policeman is just stopping people willy-nilly to the point of harrassment. I also heard a story of him following a vehicle right to their home and then parking outside. This couple is probably the most law abiding people but she is stunning. Yes. This is the same guy that the news did a report on. He has several complaints against him.
