B.C. has officially launched its 2025 call for power, aimed at securing up to 5,000 gigawatt-hours of clean and renewable electricity to support the province’s growing economy and climate goals. The initiative focuses on large-scale renewable-energy projects in partnership with First Nations and independent power producers, representing a major step in expanding B.C.’s clean-energy supply.
The power secured through this call will be enough to power approximately 500,000 homes, and the projects will also create thousands of skilled jobs in the province. Premier David Eby highlighted that this initiative is part of the province’s efforts to build a strong, clean-energy economy, stating that B.C. is positioned to be the economic engine of Canada’s new economy. The 2025 call for power follows the successful completion of the province’s first call for power in 15 years in 2024, which resulted in 10 renewable-energy projects, expected to generate $6 billion in private investment.
Energy and Climate Solutions Minister Adrian Dix emphasized the importance of these projects in supporting B.C.’s grid expansion, renewable energy goals, and reconciliation efforts with First Nations. The projects will be operational by 2033, with an additional focus on affordability and long-term sustainability.
The call for power is part of B.C.’s broader Clean Power Action Plan, which aims to meet growing electricity demands while ensuring a resilient and sustainable energy system. BC Hydro will continue to issue calls for power every two years to keep pace with the province’s energy needs and climate commitments.
