Vanderhoof RCMP are requesting public assistance following a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025, on Highway 16 at Pine Street. At approximately 3:23 p.m., RCMP received a 911 call reporting that two pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle traveling on the highway. After the collision, the vehicle continued a short distance before hitting a light standard.
One pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, while the other sustained severe injuries and was transported to hospital. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating fully with investigators.
To allow for a thorough investigation, Highway 16 was temporarily closed to traffic, but it has since been reopened. The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) has now taken over the investigation.
RCMP are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, to come forward. Your information could be crucial in assisting with the investigation.
