Esk’etemc, alongside the Concerned Parents and Caregivers of Williams Lake (CPWL), has launched a new website and video urging the Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) to conduct a thorough investigation into racial violence, bullying, and discrimination within School District #27. This call to action follows years of distressing reports from children, youth, and support workers about the unsafe environment in local schools. Last month, a peaceful rally outside the district’s offices drew attention to the issue, with families, Indigenous leaders, and community members demanding accountability. The group’s new platform, standuptogether.ca, serves as a hub for information and support, offering ways for individuals to get involved, including an online petition and a downloadable form letter for contacting the Minister of Education. With support rapidly growing, the group remains resolute in their demand for an independent investigation, aiming to ensure all students in the district can attend school without fear of racial violence or harassment.
