A major milestone has been reached for HaiSea Marine — the result of a decade-long vision finally coming to life.
This month, for the first time ever, HaiSea’s full fleet worked together on a single mission: escorting the very first LNG carrier to arrive at LNG Canada’s new facility in Kitimat. The job spanned 130 nautical miles, and the crew pulled it off flawlessly.
HaiSea Marine is a partnership between Seaspan and the Haisla Nation. In recent years, they’ve celebrated major accomplishments — from launching their first fully-electric tugboat in 2023, to opening the Zewén operations centre earlier this year. But this mission marks a new chapter.
The crew worked closely with partners at every level — local, provincial, and federal — to safely guide in the LNG carrier and its import cargo, which is essential for getting the new facility up and running.
And this is just the beginning. Once the LNG plant in Kitimat is fully operational, HaiSea’s low-emission tugboats will be in action nearly every day, guiding carriers in and out of port during peak operations.
