Poilievre Promises Tax Fairness for Travelling Trades Workers

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced that a new Conservative government will allow travelling trades workers to fully write off the costs of food, transport, and accommodation when moving between job sites. At the same time, Poilievre vowed to end tax breaks for luxury corporate jets not essential to business.
Poilievre criticized the current system, which allows corporate executives to write off private jet travel, while trades workers are limited to a $4,000 deduction, even if they need to travel frequently. He called this unfair, especially when workers are paying out of pocket to go where the work is.
Under the proposed changes, corporations will only be able to write off commercial flight costs, and charter flights for workers traveling to remote job sites will remain unaffected. The policy is based on the Travelling Fairness for Trades Workers Act, introduced by M.P. Chris Lewis.
Poilievre stressed that workers building Canada’s infrastructure deserve better tax treatment.
