The Town of Smithers Community Safety team is introducing a new bike registration initiative in partnership with Project 529, a global network designed to help reunite stolen bikes with their owners.
Each year, law enforcement and Community Safety Officers recover numerous lost and stolen bikes, but without proper registration, many go unclaimed.
By signing up with Project 529, bike owners create a direct link to their bike, increasing the chances of getting it back if it’s lost or stolen.
Carl Chad, Community Safety Officer said We know how frustrating it is to lose a bike, and we want to help reunite them with their owners,.
By working wit” local bike shops and the RCMP, we’re making it easier for residents to protect their bikes and recover them if they go missing
Project 529 is used by over 400 law enforcement agencies, universities, bike clubs, and shops worldwide.
Registration is quick and free, and bike owners can also purchase a unique 529 Shield decal, which serves as a theft deterrent.
