A trio of freshly-funded projects will bring a total of 15 new housing units for Indigenous women and children to the Village of Sik-e-Dakh, also known as Glen Vowell.
Each of the units will be housed in a wood-frame longhouse owned and operated by the Gitxsan Child and Family Services Society.
It will feature 3 three-bedroom townhouse units for women and children fleeing violence and a six-bed group home for children in care.
In addition, the project will include six independent living units for those aged 18 to 26 under a youth mentorship model.
It will see residents gain access to a support program offering life skills training, employment, education, cultural supports, safety and oversight.
Construction of the longhouse, through the Bringing Our Children Home Project, has now wrapped up, thanks to $9.6 million in joint-funding from BC and Ottawa.
