New Cow Bay Outdoor Market Place Dubbed La̱x Süülda Container Market, in honour of Ts’msyen Culture in Prince Rupert

With the final containers now in place at the new outdoor marketplace in Cow Bay, it’s about time it got an official name.

Moving forward, the site will be known as the La̱x Süülda Container Market, which translates to “on the ocean” in Sm’algyax.

Located along the Atlin Promenade, the marketplace welcomes cruise passengers with five refurbished 20 foot shipping containers.

But, instead of being used to store cargo, the containers will actually serve as uniquely port-themed market stalls for local vendors and artisans.

Two are available for vendors to rent on two-week terms, a third features open stalls, and the other two offer information and storage.

Tourism Prince Rupert had three of the containers set up for their May opening, but the new name comes alongside the delivery of the final two containers.
